The Hammers 2 – Villa 1: The Irons seal precious win at London Stadium

West Ham United beats Aston Villa 2-1 on Sunday at London Stadium. The Hammers were looking to get back their winning ways, following a previous defeat to Liverpool. Villa were coming from consecutive wins against Southampton and Brighton & Hove Albion. Following today’s result, The Hammers are in 5th place, with 48 points from 29 matches, while Villa sit in 9th, with 36 points from 29.

After a goalless first half, The Hammers applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Andriy Yarmolenko giving The Irons the lead at the 70 minute mark. The Hammers looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Pablo Fornals, at 82 minutes to establish a 2-0. The Villa in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with an effort from Jacob Ramsey and seeing the game end 2-1.

As for substitutions, for The Hammers, Andriy Yarmolenko, Ryan Fredericks and Issa Diop, came on for Michail Antonio, Aaron Cresswell and Said Benrahma, Villa brought on Ashley Young, Leon Bailey and Emiliano Buendia, to replace Lucas Digne, Danny Ings and Douglas Luiz.

The referee booked Manuel Lanzini for The Hammers.

The Hammers will play their next fixture away against Tottenham Hotspur, while Villa will face Arsenal at home.
