Monaco 2-3 Marseille: The Phocaeans claim superb road win at Monaco

Olympique de Marseille beated AS Mónaco 3-2 on Sunday at the Stade Louis II. Both teams arrived at the match after previous wins. Monaco were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two games in the league. The most recent was against the Tolouse FC away (2-0), the other to Angers SCO at home (2-0). Marseille were looking to extend their winning run after a 1-0 victory against Lyon. both teams are now on 27 points and sit in 6th and 5th places respectively after 15 matches.

The first half of the match started well for Marseille, when Alexis Sanchez found the net, at 35 minutes. However, their lead was short-lived, as Wissam Ben Yedder equalised for The Monégasques just before half-time, finishing the first half 1-1.

Monaco took the lead in the second half, when Kevin Volland found the net, at 72 minutes. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Jordan Veretout producing an equaliser, at 83 minutes, bringing Marseille level. The Phocaeans then netted again and found the back of the net thanks to a goal from Sead Kolasinac just before the full time to make it 3-2.

Substitutions for Monaco included Breel Embolo, Vanderson and Ismail Jakobs for Wissam Ben Yedder, Krepin Diatta and Kevin Volland, respectively. Marseille brought on Dimitri Payet, Bamba Dieng, Cengiz Under, Sead Kolasinac and Pape Alassane Gueye, to replace Amine Harit, Jonathan Clauss, Matteo Guendouzi, Samuel Gigot and Valentin Rongier.

There were bookings for Breel Embolo and Axel Disasi from Monaco. For Marseille, Alexis Sanchez saw yellow.

Monaco will next travel to Auxerre, while Marseille will face Tolouse FC at home.
