The Hammers 1 – Arsenal 2: The Irons suffer home defeat to The Gunners

West Ham United fell to a home defeat at the hands of Arsenal at London Stadium on Sunday. The Hammers were hoping to get something from this game after losing their last game 1-0 to Chelsea. Arsenal were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Manchester United and Chelsea. Following today’s result, The Hammers are in 7th place on the table and has 52 points while Arsenal sit in 4th with 63 points after 35 matches.
It was an impressive opening from Arsenal, with Rob Holding giving The Gunners the lead in the 38th minute. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Jarrod Bowen equalised for The Irons just before half-time to see out the first half 1-1.
Arsenal started the second half with an intensified spirit, thanks to Gabriel Magalhaes giving The Gunners the lead at the 54 minute mark, leaving the final score at 2-1.
Both teams used all available substitutes. For The Hammers, Michail Antonio, Tomas Soucek and Andriy Yarmolenko, came on for Manuel Lanzini, Mark Noble and Said Benrahma, Arsenal brought on Cedric Soares, Emile Smith-Rowe and Albert Sambi Lokonga, to replace Takehiro Tomiyasu, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.
There were bookings for Jarrod Bowen and Aaron Cresswell from The Hammers, and Bukayo Saka and Edward Nketiah, for Arsenal.
The Hammers will next play Norwich City away, with Arsenal facing Leeds United at home.
