Tottenham 4-1 Southampton: The Lilywhites humble visiting The Saints
Southampton was humiliated by Tottenham Hotspur who enjoyed victory in her first match in the new Premier League campaign.
Soton didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, when James Ward Prowse gave The Saints the lead in the 12th minute. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Ryan Sessegnon managed to equalize and take the sides off, 21 minutes in at 1-1. Spurs then netted once more and turned the match thanks to a goal from Eric Dier at the 31 minute mark, finishing the first half 2-1.
The Lilywhites continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Mohammed Salisu in the 61st minute. Spurs then scored once more and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Dejan Kulusevski at the 63 minute mark with a final score of 4-1.
Substitutions for Spurs included Ivan Perisic, Lucas Moura, Clement Lenglet, Yves Bissouma and Matt Doherty for Ryan Sessegnon, Dejan Kulusevski, Ben Davies, Rodrigo Bentancur and Emerson, repectively. Soton replaced Yann Valery, Adam Armstrong, Moussa Djenepo, Oriol Romeu and Kyle Walker-Peters for Jack Stephens, Stuart Armstrong, Romain Perraud, Ibrahima Diallo and Nathan Redmond.
The referee booked Ryan Sessegnon, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma for Spurs.
In the second round of action in the Premier League Spurs will travel to play Chelsea and Soton will play Leeds United at home.
