Spurs 5 – Newcastle 1: The Lilywhites on fire, putting 5 past The Magpies at home

Newcastle United on away loss to Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. Spurs were looking to continue their run after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the West Ham United at home (3-1), the other to Brighton & Hove Albion away (2-0). Newcastle were beaten 1-0 in the previous match against Everton. As it stands, Spurs are in 4th place on the table and has 54 points while Newcastle sit in 15th with 31 points after 31 matches.

Newcastle started strongly in the first half, with a goal from Fabian Schar at the 39 minute mark. However, The Lilywhites secured the points emphatically, with a goal from Ben Davies just before half-time, which saw the first half end 1-1.

Spurs started the second half with renewed vigour, with an early goal from Matt Doherty in the 48th minute. The Lilywhites looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Heung Min Son in the 54th minute to establish a 3-1. The momentum was now with Spurs, who then scored again through a goal from Emerson at the 63 minute mark to establish a 4-1. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Steven Bergwijn, at 83 minutes with a final score of 5-1.

Both teams used all available substitutes. For Spurs, Harry Winks, Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn, came on for Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski and Emerson, Newcastle brought on Jacob Murphy, Bruno Guimaraes and Jamaal Lascelles to replace Joelinton, Javi Manquillo and Chris Wood.

There were bookings for Harry Kane and Rodrigo Bentancur from Spurs. For Newcastle, Allan Saint-Maximin, Joelinton and Dan Burn saw yellow.

Spurs will next travel to Aston Villa, while Newcastle will face Wolverhampton Wanderers at home.
