Soton 1-2 Liverpool: Reds win pushes EPL title fight right to the finish

Soton on home loss to Liverpool at St. Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday. Soton were looking to get back their winning ways after losing their last game 3-0 to Brentford. Liverpool secured a point against Tottenham Hotspur in their previous match. After today’s result, Soton are in 15th place on the table and has 40 points while Liverpool sit in 2nd with 89 points after 37 matches.

It was an impressive opening from The Saints, thanks to Nathan Redmond giving Soton the lead in the 13th minute. However, their lead was short lived, as Takumi Minamino equalised for Liverpool at the 27 minute mark, which brought Jurgen Klopp’s squad level at 1-1 at the half time break

The Reds continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Joel Matip at the 67 minute mark, leaving the final score at 2-1.

As for substitutions, for Soton, Oriol Romeu, Stuart Armstrong and Che Adams, came on for Ibrahima Diallo, Nathan Tella and Armando Broja, Liverpool brought on Jordan Henderson, Divock Origi and Naby Keita, to replace Joe Gomez, Harvey Elliott and Roberto Firmino.

The referee booked Nathan Tella and Jack Stephens for Soton.

Soton will next play Leicester City away, with Liverpool facing Wolverhampton Wanderers at home.
