Soton 0 – Chelsea 6: The Saints left stunned by marauding visitors

Soton on home loss to Chelsea at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday. Soton wanted to improve their league standing following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Leeds United in their previous game. Chelsea were beaten 4-1 in the previous match against Brentford. After today’s result, Soton are in 12th place on the table and has 36 points while Chelsea sit in 3rd with 62 points after 32 matches.
The Blues started the first half well, with Marcos Alonso opening the rout at the 8 minute mark. The momentum was now with Chelsea, who then scored again through a goal from Mason Mount, at 16 minutes to establish a 2-0. However they weren’t finished yet and Kai Havertz made it 4-0 at the 31 minute mark to see out the first half 0-4.
The Blues fought back, with an early second effort from Timo Werner in the 49th minute. Chelsea then scored again and increased their advantage thanks to a 2nd effort from Mason Mount in the 54th minute to make it 6-0.
Both teams used all available substitutes. For Soton, Yann Valery, Ibrahima Diallo and William Smallbone, came on for Oriol Romeu, Adam Armstrong and Valentino Livramento, Chelsea brought on Christian Pulisic, Reece James and Hakim Ziyech, to replace Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva and Mason Mount.
The referee booked Jan Bednarek for Soton.
Soton will next play Arsenal at home, with Chelsea facing Leeds United away.
