Newcastle United defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 on Friday at St James’ Park. Newcastle were hoping to get something from this game after losing their last game 5-1 to Tottenham Hotspur. Wolves were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-1 victory against Aston Villa. Following today’s result, Newcastle are currently 14th with 34 points from 32 matches, while Wolves sit in 8th, with 49 points from 32.

After a goalless first half, Newcastle applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Chris Wood giving The Magpies the lead in the 72nd minute so at full time it was 1-0 to Newcastle.

Newcastle brought on Miguel Almiron, Sean Longstaff and Jacob Murphy for Ryan Fraser, Bruno Guimaraes and Allan Saint-Maximin. Wolves brought on Pedro Neto, Chem Campbell and Rayan Ait-Nouri, to replace Hee-chan Hwang, Trincao and Fernando Marcal.

There were bookings for Fabian Schar from Newcastle, and Joao Moutinho, for Wolves.

Wolves and Newcastle will next play at home to Manchester City and Leicester City respectively.
