Newcastle United beats Leicester City 2-1 on Sunday at St James’ Park. Both teams arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Newcastle were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run, following a 1-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Leicester, on the other hand, were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace. As things stand, Newcastle and Leicester currently occupy 14th and 9th spots in the table, with 37 points and 40 points respectively after 33 matches.

Leicester started the game well, with Ademola Lookman finding the net after 19 minutes. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Bruno Guimaraes equalised for Newcastle, 30 minutes in, to take a 1-1 lead into half time.

The Magpies rallied after this and were rewarded, thanks to Bruno Guimaraes finding the net again just before the final whistle, which sealed the victory for Newcastle.

Both teams used all available substitutes. For Newcastle, Joseph Willock, Jacob Murphy and Dwight Gayle, came on for Chris Wood, Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin, Leicester brought on James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Kelechi Iheanacho to replace Ayoze Perez, Ademola Lookman and Patson Daka.

There were bookings for Emil Krafth and Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle. For Leicester, Daniel Amartey saw yellow.

Newcastle will next play Norwich City away, with Leicester facing Aston Villa at home.
