On Wednesday, Crystal Palace suffer an away defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Newcastle were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two games against Leicester City at home and Wolverhampton Wanderers at home, by 2-1 and 1-0 respectively. Palace, on the other hand, were beaten 2-1 in the previous match against Leicester City. As the table looks today, Newcastle are in 11th place on the table and has 40 points while Palace sit in 11th with 37 points after 30 matches.

Newcastle started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, thanks to Miguel Almiron finding the net, 32 minutes in, finishing the first half 1-0. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-0.

Newcastle brought on Jacob Murphy, Joseph Willock and Sean Longstaff for Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron and Bruno Guimaraes. Palace brought on Jordan Ayew, Jean-Philippe Mateta and James McArthur, to replace Michael Olise, Conor Gallagher and Cheikhou Kouyate.

There were bookings for Miguel Almiron from Newcastle. For Palace, Conor Gallagher saw yellow.

Next up, Newcastle are away to Norwich City, whilst Palace will travel to face Everton.
