Newcastle 4-0 Aston Villa: The Magpies continue red-hot form

Aston Villa fell to an away defeat at the hands of Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday. Both Newcastle and Villa arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Newcastle were looking to continue their good run after winning their previous two matches against Tottenham Hotspur away and Everton at home, by 2-1 and 1-0 respectively. Villa were looking to extend their winning run after a 4-0 victory against Brentford. Newcastle are currently 4th with 24 points from 14 matches, while Villa sit in 15th, with 12 points from 14.

Newcastle once more applied the pressure in the second half and were rewarded, when Callum Wilson found the net once more in the 56th minute. Newcastle looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Joelinton, at 59 minutes to establish a 3-0. Newcastle then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Miguel Almiron on the 67 minute mark to make it 4-0.

Substitutions for Newcastle included Jacob Murphy, Matt Targett, Jamaal Lascelles, Jonjo Shelvey, Allan Saint-Maximin and Chris Wood for Joseph Willock, Botman Sven, Fabian Schar, Bruno Guimaraes, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson, respectively. Villa brought on Robin Olsen, Jacob Ramsey, Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne and John McGinn, to replace Emilano Martinez, Leon Bailey, Emiliano Buendia, Matty Cash and Leander Dendoncker.

There were bookings for Joelinton from Newcastle, and Ollie Watkins, for Villa.

Newcastle will play their next game away against Southampton, while Villa will face Manchester United at home.
