On Monday, Arsenal suffer an away defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Newcastle were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last game 5-0 to Manchester City whilst Arsenal were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Leeds United and West Ham United. As the table looks today, Newcastle are in 12th place, with 46 points from 37 matches, while Arsenal sit in 5th, with 66 points from 37.

After an un-eventful first half, The Magpies certainly were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, with Ben White giving Newcastle the lead, 55 minutes in. Newcastle then scored once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Bruno Guimaraes just before the final whistle to make it 2-0.

For Newcastle, Jamaal Lascelles, Jacob Murphy, Ryan Fraser and Dwight Gayle, came on for Fabian Schar, Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson. Arsenal replaced Cedric Soares, Gabriel Martinelli, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe with Takehiro Tomiyasu, Emile Smith-Rowe, Nuno Tavares and Gabriel Magalhaes.

The referee booked Ben White, Edward Nketiah and Granit Xhaka for Arsenal.

Newcastle will play their next game away against Burnley, while Arsenal will face Everton at home.
