Man City 3 – Villa 2: Victory denied for visitors as Cityzens win

Manchester City defeat Aston Villa 3-2 on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Man City wanted to continue adding points after a 2-2 draw against West Ham United. Villa, on the other hand, were unable to beat Crystal Palace in a 1-1 draw. Following the final whistle at the end of the last game of the Premier League season, Man City and Villa sit 1st (93 points) and 14th (45 points) in the table respectively, after a total of 38 matches.

Villa dominated the first half, with Matty Cash finding the net, at 37 minutes to see out the first half 0-1.

The Villa took the lead in the second half, thanks to Philippe Coutinho finding the net, at 69 minutes. However, Man City weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Ilkay Gundogan, 76 minutes in. Man City looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Rodri, 78 minutes in to establish a 2-2. Cityzens then scored once more and turned the match thanks to a 2nd effort from Ilkay Gundogan, 81 minutes in with a final score of 3-2.

Man City brought on Oleksandr Zinchenko, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan for Fernandinho, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva. Villa brought on Marvelous Nakamba, Danny Ings and Ashley Young, to replace Philippe Coutinho, Jacob Ramsey and Emiliano Buendia.

The referee booked Tyrone Mings and Marvelous Nakamba for Villa.
