Liverpool 3 – Wolves 1: The Reds enjoy the home win and all 3 points
Liverpool secures a 3-1 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Sunday. Liverpool were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Southampton away (2-1), the other to Aston Villa away (2-1). Wolves, on the other hand, secured a point against Norwich City in their previous match. This left, Liverpool and Wolves sit 2nd (92 points) and 10th (51 points) in the table respectively, after a total of 38 matches.
Wolves started the game well, thanks to an early goal from Pedro Neto in the 3rd minute. However, their lead was short lived, as Sadio Mane equalised for The Reds in the 24th minute, which brought Liverpool level at 1-1 at the half time break
Liverpool continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Mohamed Salah in the 84th minute. Liverpool then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Andy Robertson just before the final whistle to make it 3-1.
Both managers used all available substitutions. For Liverpool, James Milner, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, came on for Thiago, Diogo Jota and Naby Keita, Wolves brought on Hee-chan Hwang, John Ruddy and Trincao, to replace Pedro Neto, Jose Sa and Leander Dendoncker.
The referee booked Joel Matip for Liverpool.
