Liverpool 2-1 Newcastle: Carvalho breaks Newcastle hearts with late winner for the Reds
Liverpool strolled past Newcastle United with a 2-1 win on Wednesday at Anfield. Liverpool were looking to pick up points, following a 9-0 victory against Bournemouth. Newcastle had managed to pick up a point in their matchup with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Liverpool and Newcastle sit 12th, (5 points) and 10th, (6 points), in the league respectively, after 5 matches.
Newcastle found the net first, when Alexander Isak gave them the lead, at 38 minutes to take them into the break 1-0 up.
Liverpool once more applied the pressure in the second half and were rewarded, with a goal from Roberto Firmino in the 61st minute. The Reds then netted once more and turned the match thanks to a goal from Fabio Carvalho just before the final whistle to give a final score of 2-1.
Both managers used all available substitutions. Substitutions for Liverpool included James Milner, Kostas Tsimikas and Fabio Carvalho for Jordan Henderson, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, respectively, Newcastle brought on Chris Wood, Jacob Murphy and Elliot Anderson to replace Alexander Isak, Ryan Fraser and Miguel Almiron.
