Burnley 2 – Soton 0: Visitors leave Turf Moor with nothing

Burnley’s 2-0 win over Southampton on Thursday, was hard fought at Turf Moor. Burnley were looking for a victory following a disappointing 1-1 draw with West Ham United in their previous game. Soton, on the other hand, were looking to extend their winning run after a 1-0 victory against Arsenal. At the moment, Burnley and Soton are 18th, (28 points) and 13th, (39 points), spots respectively, after 30 matches.
It was an impressive opening from The Clarets, with Connor Roberts finding the net at the 12 minute mark. Burnley then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Nathan Collins just before half-time. The score at half time was 2-0. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 2-0.
Burnley brought on Aaron Lennon, Matej Vydra and Matthew Lowton for Maxwel Cornet, Wout Weghorst and Dwight McNeil. Soton brought on Che Adams, Nathan Redmond and Valentino Livramento, to replace Stuart Armstrong, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Kyle Walker-Peters.
There were bookings for Jack Cork and James Tarkowski from Burnley. For Soton, Jan Bednarek and Romain Perraud saw yellow.
Burnley will next play Wolverhampton Wanderers at home, with Soton facing Brighton & Hove Albion away.
