Burnley 1 – Newcastle 2: The Clarets left stunned by The Magpies at home

Newcastle United defeat Burnley 2-1 on Sunday at Turf Moor. Burnley were hoping to get something from this game after losing their last game 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur. Newcastle were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-0 victory against Arsenal. Following the final whistle at the end of the last game of the Premier League season, Burnley and Newcastle are 18th (35 points) and 11th (49 points) in the table respectively, after a total of 38 matches.

The Magpies started strongly in the first half, with Callum Wilson giving Newcastle the lead, 20 minutes in and managed to see out the first half 0-1.

Newcastle continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Callum Wilson finding the net again, at 60 minutes. In the end though, The Clarets at the 69 minute mark pull-back via a Maxwel Cornet goal, leaving the final score at 2-1.

For Burnley, Wout Weghorst and Aaron Lennon, came on for Connor Roberts and Josh Brownhill. Newcastle replaced Jacob Murphy, Chris Wood and Matt Ritchie with Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron.

The referee booked James Tarkowski for Burnley.
