Chelsea fell to an away defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Saturday. Brighton were looking forward to playing again after losing 3-1 to Manchester City in their last match. Chelsea, meanwhile, had secured a point against Manchester United in their previous match. Brighton and Chelsea currently occupy 7th and 5th spots in the table, with 18 points and 21 points respectively after 14 matches.

The Seagulls didn’t take long to start the rout, with an early goal from Leandro Trossard in the 5th minute. The momentum was again with Brighton, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Ruben Loftus-Cheek on the 14 minute mark to establish a 2-0 result. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a calamitous own goal from Trevoh Chalobah just before half-time, finishing the first half 3-0.

The Blues started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with an early goal from Kai Havertz in the 48th minute. In the end though, Brighton then grabbed a goal from Pascal Gross just before the full time. The match ended with a 4-1 win for Brighton.

Substitutions for Brighton included Julio Enciso, Tariq Lamptey and Jeremy Sarmiento for Adam Lallana, Kaoru Mitoma and Leandro Trossard, respectively. Chelsea replaced Edouard Mendy, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ben Chilwell, Armando Broja and Hakim Ziyech with Kepa Arrizabalaga, Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Christian Pulisic and Conor Gallagher.

There were bookings for Julio Enciso from Brighton. For Chelsea, Mateo Kovacic and Raheem Sterling saw yellow.

Brighton will next play Wolverhampton Wanderers away, with Chelsea facing Arsenal at home.
