Villa 1-0 Southampton: Villains ease pressure with narrow home win

Aston Villa beated Southampton 1-0 on Friday at Villa Park. Villa were on the hunt for more points following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Manchester City in their previous game while Soton had lost their previous match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. both teams are now on 7 points and sit in 13th and 12th places respectively after 8 matches.

The Villa started the first half well, when Jacob Ramsey gave them the lead just before half-time Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-0.

Substitutions for Villa included Douglas Luiz, Leander Dendoncker, Emiliano Buendia and Danny Ings for Boubacar Kamara, Jacob Ramsey, Leon Bailey and Philippe Coutinho, respectively. Soton brought on Joe Aribo, Juan Lopez, Stuart Armstrong, Sekou Mara and Samuel Edozie, to replace Ibrahima Diallo, Romain Perraud, Adam Armstrong, Che Adams and Mohamed Elyounoussi.

There were bookings for Philippe Coutinho, Jacob Ramsey and Ashley Young from Villa, and James Ward Prowse, for Soton.

Villa will next travel to Leeds United, while Soton will face Everton at home.
