Aston Villa 3-1 Man Utd: Villains roar to success in Emery’s first game in charge
Aston Villa strolled past Manchester United with a 3-1 win on Sunday at Villa Park. Villa arrived at the match looking to pick up more points after losing their last match 4-0 to Newcastle United. Man U had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 1-0 victory against West Ham United. Villa and Man U currently occupy 13th and 5th spots in the league, with 15 points and 23 points respectively after 15 matches.
It was an impressive opening from The Villa, when Leon Bailey gave them the lead early in the first half. The momentum was again with Villa, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Lucas Digne, 11 minutes in to establish a 2-0 result. Man U in turn, then responded just before half-time, grabbing the lead with an effort from Jacob Ramsey, ending the first half 2-1.
Villa started the second half with an intensified spirit, with an early second effort from Jacob Ramsey in the 49th minute. The match ended with a 3-1 home victory.
Substitutions for Villa included John McGinn, Ashley Young, Danny Ings, Boubacar Kamara and Morgan Sanson for Leon Bailey, Lucas Digne, Emiliano Buendia, Ollie Watkins and Leander Dendoncker, respectively. Man U brought on Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial and Anthony Elanga, to replace Luke Shaw, Donny Van De Beek and Alejandro Garnacho.
There were bookings for Leon Bailey, Tyrone Mings and Emilano Martinez from Villa. For Man U, Luke Shaw, Cristiano Ronaldo and Diogo Dalot saw yellow.
Man U and Villa will next play away to Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively.
