Villa 1 – Palace 1: Points shared with visitors at Villa Park

On Sunday, Villa and Palace were held to a 1-1 draw at Villa Park. Both Villa and Palace arrived on the back of wins. Villa were looking to continue their run after winning their previous two games in the competition. The most recent was against the Burnley away (3-1), the other to Norwich City at home (2-0). Palace were coming from consecutive wins against Watford and Southampton. As the table looks today, Villa and Palace sit 12th, (44 points) and 11th, (45 points), in the league respectively, after 37 matches.

After an un-eventful first half, The Villa fought back the second half, thanks to Ollie Watkins giving Villa the lead, 69 minutes in. In the end though, their lead was short lived, as Jeffrey Schlupp equalised for Palace, 81 minutes in. The game ended wih a 1-1 draw.

Both coaches used all available substitutions. For Villa, Calum Chambers, Jacob Ramsey and Emiliano Buendia, came on for Ezri Konsa, Marvelous Nakamba and Danny Ings, Palace brought on Odsonne Edouard, Christian Benteke and Jeffrey Schlupp, to replace Jean-Philippe Mateta, Luka Milivojevic and Eberechi Eze.

There were bookings for Tyrone Mings from Villa. For Palace, Conor Gallagher, Odsonne Edouard and Cheikhou Kouyate saw yellow.

Villa will play their next fixture away against Manchester City, while Palace will face Manchester United at home.
