Villa 1-1 Burnley: Pope heroics saves a precious survival point for Burnley at Villa

Villa were held to 1-1 draw by Burnley down on Thursday at Villa Park. Villa wanted to improve their league standing following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in their previous game. Burnley lost 1-0 in the last match they played against Tottenham Hotspur. After today’s result, Villa and Burnley sit 14th, (45 points) and 17th, (35 points), in the league respectively, after 18 matches.

The Clarets started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, thanks to a goal from Ashley Barnes just before half-time, finishing the first half 0-1.

Villa started the second half with an intensified spirit, with an early goal from Emiliano Buendia in the 48th minute. The game ended wih a 1-1 draw.

As for substitutions, for Villa, Bertrand Traore, Philippe Coutinho and Danny Ings, came on for Carney Chukwuemeka, Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins, Burnley brought on Wout Weghorst, Aaron Lennon and Matthew Lowton, to replace Ashley Barnes, Dwight McNeil and Maxwel Cornet.

Villa will next play Manchester City away, with Burnley facing Newcastle United at home.
