Wolverhampton Wanderers fell to an away defeat at the hands of Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Thursday. Both Arsenal and Wolves arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Arsenal were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches against Brentford at home and Wolverhampton Wanderers away, by 2-1 and 1-0 respectively whilst Wolves were coming from consecutive wins against Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur. As the table looks today, Arsenal and Wolves are 6th, (42 points) and 7th, (40 points), spots respectively, after 20 matches.

Wolves started strong and were rewarded, with Hee-chan Hwang giving Wolves the lead in the 10th minute. The score at half time was 0-1.

Arsenal continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Nicolas Pepe finding the net in the 82nd minute. However they weren’t finished yet and Alexandre Lacazette made it 2-1 just before the final whistle to make it 2-1.

Both teams used all available substitutes. For Arsenal, Nicolas Pepe, Edward Nketiah and Nuno Tavares, came on for Gabriel Martinelli, Cedric Soares and Kieran Tierney, Wolves brought on Jonny Castro, Pedro Neto and Leander Dendoncker to replace Nelson Semedo, Hee-chan Hwang and Daniel Podence.

There were bookings for Bukayo Saka from Arsenal, and Raul Jimenez, for Wolves.

Arsenal will next play Liverpool at home, with Wolves facing West Ham United away.
