Arsenal 5-0 Nottingham Forest: The Gunners go back to the top with big win
On Sunday, Nottingham Forest suffered an away defeat to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal were aiming to improve their league standing following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Southampton in their previous game. Forest had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 1-0 victory against Liverpool. Arsenal and Forest currently occupy 1st and 20th spots in the league, with 31 points and 9 points respectively after 14 matches.
The Gunners didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, with an early goal from Gabriel Martinelli in the 5th minute, concluding the first half 1-0.
Arsenal started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with an early goal from Reiss Nelson in the 49th minute. The momentum was again with Arsenal, who then scored again courtesy of a 2nd effort from Reiss Nelson in the 52nd minute to establish a 3-0 result. Arsenal looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Thomas Partey, 57 minutes in to establish a 4-0. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a goal from Martin Odegaard in the 78th minute to give a final score of 5-0.
Substitutions for Arsenal included Reiss Nelson, Fabio Vieira, Cedric Soares, Edward Nketiah and Kieran Tierney for Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Granit Xhaka and William Saliba, respectively. Forest brought on Emmanuel Dennis, Brennan Johnson, Joe Worrall, Neco Williams and Lewis O’Brien, to replace Jesse Lingard, Morgan Gibbs-White, Renan Lodi, Taiwo Awoniyi and Cheikhou Kouyate.
The referee booked one player from Forest, Morgan Gibbs-White.
Arsenal will next travel to Chelsea, while Forest will face Brentford at home.
