Arsenal 2 – Leeds 1: The Gunners prevail in home win against The Whites

Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Leeds United on Sunday, was hard fought at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches against West Ham United away and Manchester United at home, by 2-1 and 3-1 respectively. Leeds had lost their previous match against Manchester City. As things stand, Arsenal and Leeds currently occupy 4th and 17th spots in the table, with 66 points and 34 points respectively after 36 matches.
Arsenal started strongly in the first half, thanks to an early goal from Edward Nketiah in the 5th minute. However they weren’t finished yet and Edward Nketiah made it 2-0 at the 10 minute mark to secure a 2-0 win.
Leeds took the initiative in the second half, with Diego Llorente finding the net at the 66 minute mark. The game ended with a 2-1 home victory.
Both teams used all available substitutes. For Arsenal, Nicolas Pepe, Emile Smith-Rowe and Alexandre Lacazette, came on for Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Edward Nketiah, Leeds brought on Pascal Struijk, Lewis Bate and Rodrigo Moreno to replace Joe Gelhardt, Mateusz Klich and Raphinha.
The referee booked Gabriel Magalhaes and Takehiro Tomiyasu from Arsenal. Leeds had the worst of it though, with Raphinha and Mateusz Klich seeing yellow, and Luke Ayling then sent off with a red.
Arsenal will play away against Newcastle United, while Leeds will face Brighton & Hove Albion at home.
