Arsenal 5 – Everton 1: The Toffees blown away at Emirates Stadium

Everton suffered an away defeat against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Both Arsenal and Everton arrived at the match from previous defeats in the league. Arsenal were looking to get back their winning ways after losing their last game 2-0 to Newcastle United. Everton, on the other hand, lost 3-2 in the last match they played against Brentford. This left, Arsenal and Everton sit 5th (69 points) and 16th (39 points) in the league respectively, after a total of 38 matches.

The Gunners didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, with Gabriel Martinelli opening the rout after 27 minutes. The momentum was now with Arsenal, who then scored again through a goal from Edward Nketiah, 31 minutes in to establish a 2-0. However, The Toffees secured the points emphatically, with a goal from Donny Van De Beek just before half-time to see out the first half 2-1.

Arsenal continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Cedric Soares finding the net at the 56 minute mark. The momentum was now with The Gunners, who then scored again through a goal from Gabriel Magalhaes, at 59 minutes to establish a 4-1. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Martin Odegaard at the 82 minute mark with a final score of 5-1.

Both managers made full use of their substitutions. For Arsenal, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe, came on for Granit Xhaka, Edward Nketiah and Bukayo Saka, Everton brought on Donny Van De Beek, Anthony Gordon and Isaac Price, to replace Abdoulaye Doucoure, Dele Alli and Tom Davies.

The referee booked Tom Davies for Everton.
