Arsenal 2-1 Aston Villa: The Gunners fight back to beat slumping Villains

Arsenal eased past Aston Villa in a 2-1 victory on Wednesday at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Fulham at home (2-1), the other to Bournemouth away (3-0) while Villa were beaten 1-0 in their previous match against West Ham United. Arsenal and Villa currently occupy 1st and 19th spots in the league, with 15 points and 3 points respectively after 5 matches.

Arsenal started strongly in the first half, when Gabriel Jesus gave them the lead, 30 minutes in, finishing the first half 1-0.

Villa took the initiative in the second half, with a goal from Douglas Luiz, at 74 minutes. The Gunners managed to edge ahead with a goal from Gabriel Martinelli in the 77th minute. The match ended 2-1 to Arsenal.

Substitutions for Arsenal included Takehiro Tomiyasu, Emile Smith-Rowe, Rob Holding and Edward Nketiah for Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, respectively. Villa brought on Douglas Luiz, Philippe Coutinho and Danny Ings, to replace Emiliano Buendia, John McGinn and Boubacar Kamara.

There were bookings for Martin Odegaard and William Saliba from Arsenal. For Villa, Jacob Ramsey, Ezri Konsa and John McGinn saw yellow.

Arsenal will next travel to Manchester United, while Villa will face Manchester City at home.
