Toronto 3-4 Montreal: Insigne brace not enough for The Reds

Montréal’s 4-3 win over Toronto FC on Monday, was hard fought at BMO Field. Phili are currently 10th with 34 points from 41 matches, while MON sit in 2nd, with 52 points from 41.

Phili started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with an early penalty goal from Bernardeschi in the 4th minute. The momentum was again with Phili, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Insigne 7 minutes into the game to establish a 2-0 result. However, MON refused to lie down and managed to pull back a goal from Miller, 19 minutes in. MON looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Mihailovic, at 21 minutes to establish a 2-2. MON then scored once more and turned the match thanks to a goal from Kamara just before half-time, finishing the first half 3-2.

MON started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, thanks to a goal from Johnston on the 54 minute mark. Phili in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with a 2nd effort from Insigne. The match ended with a 4-3 victory for MON.

Substitutions for Phili included Henry, Kaye, Jesús Jiménez, Achara and Marshall-Ruty for Mavinga, Nelson, Akinola, Okello and Criscito, respectively. MON brought on Koné, Toye, Thorkelsson and Miljevic, to replace Mihailovic, Choiniere, Quioto and Kamara.

There were bookings for Criscito, Laryea and Bernardeschi from Phili, and Choiniere, Quioto and Toye, for MON.

Phili will next play Atlanta United away, with MON facing Columbus Crew at home.
