Real Salt Lake 3-1 Portland: Claret and Cobalt breeze past the Timbers

Real Salt Lake secured a 3-1 win against Portland Timbers at Rio Tinto Stadium on Monday. Following this match, RSL are now in 7th place on the table and have 47 points while Portland sit in 8th with 46 points after 48 matches.

The first half of the match started well for RSL, with a goal from Savarino, at 19 minutes, ending the first half 1-0.

RSL started the second half with an intensified spirit, with an early goal from Méndez in the 49th minute. Claret and Cobalt looked to have the match under control when they scored again to grab the advantage, thanks to a goal from Davis, 82 minutes in to establish a 3-0. In the end though, Portland hit back though just before the full time, with a goal from Asprilla so at full time it was 3-1 to RSL.

Substitutions for RSL included Davis, Meram, Julio and Löffelsend for Chang, Savarino, Córdova and Méndez, respectively. Portland brought on Niezgoda, Van Rankin, Loria and Blanco, to replace Mcgraw, Bravo, David Ayala and Moreno.

There were bookings for Méndez from RSL. For Portland, David Ayala and Blanco saw yellow.
