San Jose 2-1 Los Angeles: Quakes celebrate good home win over LA

San Jose beat Los Angeles FC with a thumping 2-1 victory on Sunday at Avaya Stadium. After today’s result, San Jose are in 12th place in the table and have 27 points while Los Angeles sit in 1st with 57 points after 37 matches.

San Jose started the first half well, when Benjamin Kikanovic found the net at the 15 minute mark, ending the first half 1-0.

Los Angeles started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with a goal from Opoku in the 55th minute. In the end though, Quakes at the 77 minute mark took the victory following a Cowell goal and saw the match end 2-1.

Substitutions for San Jose included Cowell and Remedi for Benjamin Kikanovic and Gregus, repectively. Los Angeles brought on Cifuentes, Vela, Ilie, Bale and Segura for Mendez, Blessing, Hollingshead, Opoku and Escobar.

The referee booked Thompson, Nathan Pelae, Benjamin Kikanovic and Remedi from San Jose. Los Angeles had the worst of it though, with Ibeagha, Ilie, Kellyn Acosta, Cifuentes and Arango seeing yellow, and Ilie (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Next up, San Jose are away to Sporting Kansas City, whilst Los Angeles will travel to face Austin.
