Red Bulls 4-5 Colorado: Rapids with a huge fightback in an astonishing nine-goal thriller

Colorado Rapids eased past Red Bulls in a 5-4 victory on Wednesday at Red Bull Arena. As it stands, Red Bulls are in 3rd place in the table and have 36 points while COLO sit in 10th with 27 points after 31 matches.

The first half of the match started well for Metro, when Yearwood gave Red Bulls the lead early in the first half. The momentum was now with Red Bulls, who then scored again through a goal from Long at the 9 minute mark to establish a 2-0. However, COLO weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Rubio in the 21st minute. However, Red Bulls increased their advantage 3-1 thanks to a goal from Morgan, 29 minutes in. COLO in turn, then responded, 38 minutes in increasing their lead with an effort from Rosenberry and saw the first half out 3-2.

COLO continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Warner at the 78 minute mark. COLO looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Barrios, at 81 minutes to establish a 4-3. In the end though, Metro hit back though just before the final whistle, with a penalty goal from Barlow and saw the match end 5-4.

Substitutions for Red Bulls included Daniel Edelman, Barlow, Harper and Clark for Yearwood, Klimala, Reyes and Morgan, repectively. COLO brought on Barrios, Max, Dantouma Toure and Moor for Abubakar, Jonathan Lewis, Warner and Acosta.

The referee booked Abubakar, Rubio, Vallecilla and Barrios for COLO.
