Portland 2 – Seattle 1: The Sounders unable to avoid defeat at Providence Park

Seattle Sounders on away loss to Portland at Providence Park on Saturday. As it stands, Portland are in 7th place, with 36 points from 38 matches, while Seattle sit in 10th, with 33 points from 38.

Seattle dominated the first half, when Gómez found the net, 8 minutes in. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Asprilla equalised for Portland just before halftime, to take a 1-1 lead into half time.

The Timbers started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, when Blanco found the net at the 51 minute mark, leaving the final score at 2-1.

Substitutions for Portland included Niezgoda, Paredes and Loria for Blanco, Chará and Moreno, repectively. Seattle replaced Ragen, Montero, Atencio and Leo Chú with Leyva, Arreaga, Rowe and Rusnák.

There were bookings for Blanco, Williamson and Mcgraw from Portland, and Lodeiro and Leyva, for Seattle.
