NYC 2-2 Atlanta: The Pigeons denied by competitive Atlanta at Yankee Stadium

NYC were held to 2-2 draw by Atlanta down on Monday at Yankee Stadium. As it stands, NYC are in 1st place in the table and have 29 points while Atlanta sit in 10th with 20 points after 25 matches.

NYC started the first half well, when Castellanos gave NYC the lead, at 38 minutes. They then managed to see out the first half 1-0.

Atlanta took the initiative in the second half, when Josef Martinez found the net at the 57 minute mark. However, each side looked hungry to win and The Pigeons then found the back of the net in the 58th minute thanks to Castellanos, taking the score to 2-1. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Dwyer equalised for Atlanta just before the final whistle and saw the match end 2-2.

Substitutions for NYC included Gabriel Pereira, Gray, Andrade and Haak for Talles Magno, Tinnerholm, Rodríguez and Acevedo, repectively. Atlanta brought on Cisneros, Machop Chol and Dwyer, to replace Amar Sejdic, Caleb Wiley and Almada.

There were bookings for Chanot, Rodríguez, Talles Magno and Morales from NYC. For Atlanta, McFadden and Luiz Araujo saw yellow.

Atlanta and NYC will next play at home to Austin and New England Revolution respectively.
