Columbus 3-2 New York City: Zelarayan nets twice for The Crew in home win

Columbus Crew eased past New York in a 3-2 victory on Sunday at MAPFRE Stadium. As the table looks today, Columbus are in 5th place, with 33 points from 33 matches, while NYC sit in 2nd, with 42 points from 33.

It was an impressive opening from NYC, with an early calamitous own goal from Mensah in the 3rd minute. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Cucho producing an equaliser in the 20th minute, bringing Columbus level. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Zelarayán, 27 minutes in, ending the first half 2-1.

The Pigeons took the lead in the second half, with a goal from Gabriel Pereira in the 64th minute. In the end though, The Crew at the 76 minute mark took the victory following another Zelarayán goal and saw the match end 3-2.

Substitutions for Columbus included Morris for Artur, repectively. NYC replaced Gray, Heber, Callens and Gabriel Pereira for Tinnerholm, Moralez, Chanot and Andrade.

There were bookings for Mensah and Etienne from Columbus. For NYC, Rodríguez, Morales, Tinnerholm and Amundsen saw yellow.
