Austin 4-3 Kansas: Los Verdes triumph over Wizards at Q2 Stadium

Austin snatched all three points from Sporting Kansas City in a 4-3 victory on Sunday, at Q2 Stadium. Following today’s result, Austin are currently 2nd with 48 points from 35 matches, while Kansas sit in 14th, with 23 points from 35.

Kansas started strongly in the first half, when Fontàs gave Wizards the lead at the 12 minute mark. The momentum was now with Kansas, who then scored again through a goal from Agada, at 23 minutes to establish a 2-0. However, Austin weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Gallagher at the 28 minute mark. Kansas in turn, then responded just before halftime increasing their lead with an effort from Russell, which saw the first half end 3-1.

Los Verdes continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Cascante found the net at the 63 minute mark. Austin looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Hoesen, at 85 minutes to establish a 3-3. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Driussi just before the final whistle with a final score of 4-3.

Substitutions for Austin included Corozo, Hoesen, Kolmanic, Felipe Martins and Romaña for Pereira, Maxi Urruti, Nick Lima, Fagundez and Gabrielsen, repectively. Kansas brought on Hernandez, Pierre and Tzionis, to replace Espinoza, Russell and Agada.

There were bookings for Gabrielsen and Driussi from Austin, and Agada and Salloi, for Kansas.
