Austin 1-2 Portland: Timbers earn narrow road win against Los Verdes

Austin on Thursday lost to Portland Timbers on a home defeat at Q2 Stadium. Austin are now in 2nd place on the table and have 51 points while Portland sit in 7th with 39 points after 40 matches.

The Timbers started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Tuiloma gave them the lead in the 16th minute, ending the first half 1-0.

Portland continued to apply pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Mcgraw found the net, 73 minutes in. In the end though, Los Verdes hit back though via a Driussi goal, at 79 minutes. The match ended with a 2-1 victory for Portland.

Substitutions for Austin included Hoesen, Felipe Martins, Rigoni, Kolmanic and Jiménez for Maxi Urruti, Pereira, Finlay, Gallagher and Nick Lima, respectively. Portland brought on Loria, Niezgoda, Paredes and David Ayala, to replace Chará, Blanco, Williamson and Moreno.

There were bookings for Maxi Urruti, Pereira and Ring from Austin, and Župarić and Williamson, for Portland.

Austin will next travel to Nashville SC, while Portland will face Atlanta United at home.
