Atlanta 1-2 Red Bulls: Metro find a way to tame the Five Stripes

Red Bulls eased past Atlanta United in a 2-1 victory on Thursday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Following today’s result, Atlanta are in 13th place in the table and have 29 points while Red Bulls sit in 4th with 40 points after 36 matches.

Red Bulls started strongly in the first half, when Morgan found the net, 12 minutes in. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from John Tolkin at the 20 minute mark to see out the first half 2-0.

Atlanta took the initiative in the second half, when Josef Martinez found the net just before the final whistle so at full time it was 2-1 to Red Bulls.

Substitutions for Atlanta included Lennon, Gutman, Mosquera, Dwyer and Amar Sejdic for Moreno, Hernández, Caleb Wiley, Cisneros and Sosa, repectively. Red Bulls brought on Reyes, Harper, Dylan Nealis and Barlow for Yearwood, Luquinhas, Long and Klimala.

There were bookings for Gutman from Atlanta. For Red Bulls, Duncan, Klimala and Carlos Miguel saw yellow.
