Atlanta 2-1 RSL: Salt Lake come up short in their fightback bid in Georgia

Atlanta United beated Real Salt Lake 2-1 on Thursday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. As the table looks today, Atlanta are in 10th place, with 23 points from 27 matches, while RSL sit in 3rd, with 30 points from 27.

Atlanta started strongly in the first half, when Cisneros gave Atlanta the lead after only 7 minutes. Atlanta looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a 2nd effort from Cisneros at the 33 minute mark to establish a 2-0. RSL in turn, then responded, 37 minutes in increasing their lead with an effort from Kappelhof, which saw the first half end 2-1. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 2-1.

Substitutions for Atlanta included Franco Ibarra, Machop Chol, Josef Martinez and Sosa for Almada, McFadden, Cisneros and Amar Sejdic, repectively. RSL brought on Córdova, Löffelsend, Chang, Davis and Kablan, to replace Luna, Ruiz, Schmitt, Meram and Brody.

There were bookings for Moreno from Atlanta. For RSL, Holt and Nick Besler saw yellow.
