Atlanta 3-2 D.C.: Black-and-Red throw away the lead twice in defeat

D.C. United on away loss to Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday. As the table looks today, Atlanta are in 10th place in the table and have 33 points while D.C. sit in 14th with 22 points after 39 matches.

It was an impressive opening from D.C., when Morrison found the net just before halftime, finishing the first half 1-0.

Atlanta started the second half with an intensified spirit, with an early goal from Franco in the 49th minute. However, each side looked hungry to win and Black-and-Red then found the back of the net, at 55 minutes thanks to Kamara, taking the score to 2-1. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Josef Martinez producing an equaliser, 63 minutes in, bringing Atlanta level. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Purata, at 70 minutes to make it 3-2.

Substitutions for Atlanta included Josef Martinez, Mosquera, Moreno and Franco Ibarra for Cisneros, Amar Sejdic, Caleb Wiley and Luiz Araujo, repectively. D.C. brought on Kamara, Odoi-Atsem, Hopkins, Miguel Berry, Pines and Smith, to replace Fountas, Sami Guediri, Djeffal, Rodríguez, Najar and Morrison.

The referee booked Purata for Atlanta.
