Cambridge Utd banked all three points against the Wycombe Wanderers in a 3-2 victory on Tuesday, at Adams Park. Wycombe had been hopeful of continuing their good run after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Milton Keynes Dons away (1-0), the other to Peterborough United at home (3-1). Cambridge had lost their previous match against Port Vale. Wycombe are now in 13th place, with 20 points from 16 matches, while Cambridge sit in 16th, with 19 points from 16.

Cambridge started the match strongly, when Harvey Knibbs gave them the lead after only 6 minutes. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from Sam Vokes in the 35th minute brought The Chairboys level. However, Cambridge found the back of the net via a Jack Lankester goal just before half-time, finishing the first half 2-1.

Cambridge continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, with a goal from Lloyd Jones, at 77 minutes. Wycombe in turn, then responded just before the full time, grabbing the lead with an effort from Lewis Wing, leaving the final score at 3-2.

Substitutions for Wycombe included David Wheeler, Brandon Hanlan, Daryl Horgan, Sullay Kaikai and D’Mani Bughail-Mellor for Jack Grimmer, Garath McCleary, Nick Freeman, Jordan Obita and Anis Mehmeti, respectively. Cambridge brought on Jack Lankester and Ben Worman, to replace Fejiri Okenabirhie and Harvey Knibbs.

There were bookings for David Wheeler and Sullay Kaikai from Wycombe. For Cambridge, James Brophy and Will Mannion saw yellow.

Wycombe will next play Morecambe FC at home, with Cambridge facing Peterborough United away.
