Wigan Athletic 4 – Morecambe FC 1: Bad day for visitors at Dw Stadium

Morecambe FC fell to an away defeat at the hands of Wigan Athletic at Dw Stadium on Saturday. Wigan Athletic were looking for a victory after a 1-1 draw against Milton Keynes Dons. Morecambe FC lost 3-1 in the last match they played against Cheltenham Town. As the table looks today, Wigan Athletic and Morecambe FC are 2nd, (79 points) and 22nd, (32 points), spots respectively, after 39 matches.

It was an impressive opening from Wigan Athletic, with Josh Magennis opening the rout, 19 minutes in. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Jason Kerr just before half-time. The first half ended 2-0.

Morecambe FC started the second half with renewed vigour, with an early penalty goal from Dylan Edward Connolly in the 49th minute. However, Wigan Athletic increased their advantage with a Will Keane goal, 67 minutes in to make it 3-1. Wigan Athletic then scored once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Stephen Humphrys at the 68 minute mark to make it 4-1.

For Wigan Athletic, Graeme Shinnie and Gwion Edwards, came on for Max Power and Stephen Humphrys. Morecambe FC brought on Adam Phillips, Jonah Ayunga and Liam Gibson for Shane McLoughlin, Arthur Gnahoua and Jacob Bedeau.

The referee booked Cole Stockton for Morecambe FC.

Wigan Athletic will next play Burton Albion away, with Morecambe FC facing Oxford United at home.
