Sunderland AFC 3 – Shrewsbury Town 2: Visitors unable to get win at Stadium of Light

On Friday, Shrewsbury Town suffer an away defeat to Sunderland AFC at Stadium of Light. Sunderland AFC were looking to continue their run after winning their previous two matches against Oxford United away and Gillingham FC at home, by 2-1 and 1-0 respectively. Shrewsbury Town, on the other hand, secured a point against Ipswich Town in their previous match. After today’s result, Sunderland AFC are in 6th place on the table and has 76 points while Shrewsbury Town sit in 17th with 49 points after 43 matches.
Sunderland AFC dominated the first half, with an early goal from Elliot Embleton in the 4th minute. Sunderland AFC then scored once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Nathan Broadhead, 13 minutes in. The score at half time was 2-0.
Shrewsbury Town started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, thanks to an early goal from Josh Vela in the 50th minute. The momentum was now with Shrewsbury Town, who then scored again through a goal from Tom Flanagan, at 58 minutes to establish a 2-2. Sunderland AFC in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with a 2nd effort from Nathan Broadhead. When the final wisthle blew, the result was 3-2 to Sunderland AFC.
