Sunderland AFC 1 – Rotherham 1: Honours even and points shared at Stadium of Light

On Tuesday, Sunderland AFC and Rotherham were held to a 1-1 draw at Stadium of Light. Both Sunderland AFC and Rotherham arrived on the back of wins. Sunderland AFC were looking to pick up points, following a 5-1 victory against Cambridge Utd. Rotherham were coming from a 2-1 win against Oxford United. At the moment, Sunderland AFC and Rotherham are 5th, (81 points) and 2nd, (87 points), spots respectively, after 40 matches.

Rotherham started strongly in the first half, thanks to a goal from Michael Ihiekwe in the 17th minute, seeing out the first half 0-1.

Sunderland AFC took the lead in the second half, with Michael Ihiekwe finding the net just before the final whistle. The final result, Sunderland AFC 1, Rotherham 1.

For Sunderland AFC, Alex Pritchard, Jack Clarke and Elliot Embleton, came on for Nathan Broadhead, Trai Hume and Jay Matete. Rotherham brought on Joe Mattock and Jamie Lindsay, to replace Jordi Osei-Tutu and Oliver Rathbone.

There were bookings for Jay Matete from Sunderland AFC. For Rotherham, Oliver Rathbone saw yellow.

Next up, Sunderland AFC are away to Morecambe FC, whilst Rotherham will travel to face Gillingham FC.
