Sunderland AFC 2 – Crewe Alexandra 0: Home fans rewarded with victory at Stadium of Light

Sunderland AFC snatched all three points from Crewe Alexandra in a 2-0 victory on Saturday, at Stadium of Light. Sunderland AFC wanted to continue adding points following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Charlton Athletic in their previous game. Crewe Alexandra, on the other hand, lost 3-1 in the last match they played against Wycombe Wanderers. After today’s result, Sunderland AFC and Crewe Alexandra currently occupy 5th and 24th spots in the league, with 66 points and 25 points respectively after 38 matches.

After a goalless first half, Sunderland AFC applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Dan Neill giving Sunderland AFC the lead, 84 minutes in. Sunderland AFC then scored once more and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Patrick Roberts just before the final whistle to make it 2-0.

Both teams used all available substitutes. For Sunderland AFC, Dan Neill, Leon Dajaku and Patrick Roberts, came on for Luke O’Nien, Lynden Gooch and Jermain Defoe, Crewe Alexandra brought on Bassala Sambou, Oliver Finney and Connor Salisbury to replace Rakeem Harper, Callum Ainley and Michael Williams.

There were bookings for Lynden Gooch, Bailey Wright, Dennis Cirkin, Leon Dajaku and Jack Clarke from Sunderland AFC, and Michael Williams, Josh Lundstram and Tom Lowery, for Crewe Alexandra.

Sunderland AFC will play away against Lincoln City, while Crewe Alexandra will face Bolton Wanderers at home.
