Sunderland AFC 5 – Cambridge 1: Bad day for visitors at Stadium of Light

Sunderland AFC strolled past Cambridge Utd with a 5-1 win on Saturday at Stadium of Light. Sunderland AFC were looking for a victory following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Plymouth Argyle in their previous game. Cambridge were beaten 2-0 in the previous match against Charlton Athletic. After today’s result, Sunderland AFC and Cambridge sit 4th, (80 points) and 14th, (57 points), in the table respectively, after 45 matches.
It was an impressive opening from Sunderland AFC, with Ross Stewart opening the rout in the 13th minute. Sunderland AFC looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Elliot Embleton in the 29th minute to establish a 2-0. However, Cambridge weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Paul Digby, 30 minutes in. However, Sunderland AFC secured the points emphatically, with a second effort from Ross Stewart, 36 minutes in, to take a 3-1 lead into half time.
Sunderland AFC fought back, with Nathan Broadhead finding the net, 53 minutes in. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Danny Batth, at 72 minutes to make it 5-1.
For Sunderland AFC, Callum Doyle, Alex Pritchard and Dan Neill, came on for Carl Winchester, Nathan Broadhead and Corry Evans. Cambridge replaced Liam Bennett and Liam O’Neil with Sam Smith and Harvey Knibbs.
Sunderland AFC will play away against Morecambe FC, while Cambridge will face Cheltenham Town at home.
