Sunderland AFC 1 – Burton Albion 1: Plenty of goals but no win at Stadium of Light

On Tuesday, Sunderland AFC and Burton Albion were held to a 1-1 draw at Stadium of Light. Both teams came from defeats in their previous league games. Sunderland AFC arrived at the game looking pick up points, following a previous defeat to Milton Keynes Dons. Burton Albion were beaten 3-0 in the previous match against Ipswich Town. After today’s result, Sunderland AFC are in 6th place on the table and has 56 points while Burton Albion sit in 13th with 44 points after 35 matches.

After an un-eventful first half, Burton Albion certainly were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, thanks to a goal from Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, at 53 minutes. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Ross Stewart equalised for Sunderland AFC just before the final whistle. The game ended wih a 1-1 draw.

For Sunderland AFC, Elliot Embleton, Jack Clarke and Dan Neill, came on for Corry Evans, Jermain Defoe and Lynden Gooch. Burton Albion brought on Christian Saydee and Harry Chapman, to replace Omar Niasse and Jonny Smith.

There were bookings for Carl Winchester from Sunderland AFC. For Burton Albion, Conor Shaughnessy and Christian Saydee saw yellow.

Sunderland AFC will play their next fixture away against Wigan Athletic, while Burton Albion will face Shrewsbury Town at home.
