Shrewsbury Town 0 – Wigan Athletic 3: Home side humiliated by travelling Montgomery Waters Meadow

Shrewsbury Town suffered a home defeat against Wigan Athletic at Montgomery Waters Meadow on Saturday. Shrewsbury Town arrived at the game looking pick up points after losing their last game 2-0 to Charlton Athletic. Wigan Athletic, on the other hand, had managed to pick up a single point in their encounter with Plymouth Argyle. This left, Shrewsbury Town and Wigan Athletic are 18th (50 points) and 1st (92 points) in the table respectively, after a total of 46 matches.

Wigan Athletic didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, with Josh Vela opening the rout just before half-time, to take a 0-1 lead into half time.

Wigan Athletic fought back, with an early penalty goal from Will Keane in the 50th minute. Wigan Athletic then netted once more and increased their advantage thanks to a 2nd effort from Will Keane in the 65th minute to make it 3-0.

For Shrewsbury Town, Shaun Whalley, Tom Bloxham and Saikou Janneh, came on for George Nurse, Daniel Udoh and Ryan Bowman. Wigan Athletic replaced Joe Bennett with James McClean.

The referee booked Josh Vela and Luke Leahy for Shrewsbury Town.
