Shrewsbury Town 1 – Portsmouth FC 2: Visitors ecstatic after win at Montgomery Waters Meadow

Portsmouth FC defeat Shrewsbury Town 2-1 on Tuesday at Montgomery Waters Meadow. Shrewsbury Town were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last game 1-0 to Plymouth Argyle while Portsmouth FC were coming from consecutive wins against Doncaster Rovers and Burton Albion. Following today’s result, Shrewsbury Town are in 18th place on the table and has 34 points while Portsmouth FC sit in 11th with 47 points after 35 matches.

Shrewsbury Town started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with Luke Leahy giving Shrewsbury Town the lead, 14 minutes in. However, their lead was short lived, as Denver Hume equalised for Portsmouth FC at the 29 minute mark. The score at half time was 1-1.

Portsmouth FC continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Louis Thompson in the 84th minute. The final result, Shrewsbury Town 1, Portsmouth FC 2.

Both managers used all substitutions. For Shrewsbury Town, Tyrese Fornah, Ryan Bowman and Saikou Janneh, came on for David Davis, Tom Bloxham and Elliott Bennett, Portsmouth FC brought on Marcus Harness, Tyler Walker and Recco Hackett-Fairchild, to replace Hayden Carter, Aiden O’Brien and Mahlon Romeo.

The referee booked Louis Thompson for Portsmouth FC and Josh Vela saw the red card, for Shrewsbury Town.

Shrewsbury Town will next play Burton Albion away, with Portsmouth FC facing Fleetwood Town at home.
