Shrewsbury Town 5 – Morecambe FC 0: Bad day for visitors at Montgomery Waters Meadow

Shrewsbury Town eased past Morecambe FC in a 5-0 victory on Tuesday at Montgomery Waters Meadow. Both Shrewsbury Town and Morecambe FC came from defeats in their previous league games. Shrewsbury Town arrived at the game looking pick up points after losing their last game 2-1 to Oxford United. Morecambe FC were beaten 3-1 in the previous match against Cheltenham Town. As the table looks today, Shrewsbury Town are in 17th place, with 42 points from 34 matches, while Morecambe FC sit in 22nd, with 32 points from 34.

Shrewsbury Town didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, with Daniel Udoh opening the rout after 44 minutes. Shrewsbury Town then netted once more and increased their advantage thanks to a penalty goal from Luke Leahy just before half-time, to take a 2-0 lead into half time.

Shrewsbury Town staged a comeback in the second half, with Luke Leahy finding the net again, at 51 minutes. The momentum was now with Shrewsbury Town, who then scored again through a second effort from Daniel Udoh at the 65 minute mark to establish a 4-0. However they weren’t finished yet and Ryan Bowman made it 5-0, 70 minutes in to make it 5-0.

Shrewsbury Town brought on Shaun Whalley, Tom Bloxham and Josh Daniels for Josh Vela, Daniel Udoh and Elliott Bennett. Morecambe FC brought on Ryan Cooney, Jonah Ayunga and Jacob Mensah, to replace Alfie John McCalmont, Dylan Edward Connolly and Liam Gibson.

The referee booked Aaron Wildig and Shane McLoughlin for Morecambe FC.

Next up, Shrewsbury Town are away to Rotherham United, whilst Morecambe FC will travel to face Wigan Athletic.
