Shrewsbury Town 0 – Charlton Athletic 1: Visitors secure points with win at Montgomery Waters Meadow

Charlton Athletic beated Shrewsbury Town 1-0 on Saturday at Montgomery Waters Meadow. Both sides arrived fresh from some positive results. Shrewsbury Town were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Fleetwood Town away (1-0), the other to Milton Keynes Dons at home (2-1) while Charlton Athletic were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Portsmouth FC and Exeter City. Shrewsbury Town are now in 10th place, with 21 points from 15 matches, while Charlton Athletic sit in 7th, with 22 points from 15.

After a goalless first half, Charlton Athletic continued to apply pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Jesuran Rak-Sakyi gave them the lead, at 69 minutes. They managed to close the match out with a clean sheet and a well-earned of 1-0 victory.

Substitutions for Shrewsbury Town included Aiden O’Brien, Tom Bloxham, Matthew Pennington and Robert Street for Rekeil Pyke, Tom Bayliss, Taylor Moore and Elliott Bennett, respectively. Charlton Athletic brought on Jack Payne, Sean Clare, Chuks Aneke, Albie Morgan and Terell Thomas, to replace Tyreece Campbell, Mandela Egbo, Jayden Stockley, Jesuran Rak-Sakyi and Charlie Kirk.

There were bookings for Christian Saydee from Shrewsbury Town, and Ryan Inniss, Scott Fraser and Eoghan O’Connell, for Charlton Athletic.

Shrewsbury Town will play away against Plymouth Argyle, while Charlton Athletic will face Milton Keynes Dons at home.
